1. Thanking the crap out of this weekend

When this weekend rolls around every year, I find myself surrounded with an enormous amount of things to be thankful for.  Josh and I got married on Thanksgiving weekend in 2006 (October 7), and found ourselves welcoming a baby boy to the world on Thanksgiving weekend two years later (October 10, 2008).  Add THOSE earth-shattering events to the already innumerable reasons to celebrate on Thanksgiving weekend, and you’ve got yourself up until 2 a.m., penning Thank-You cards (in a gin-fueled chicken scratch) to the cosmos.  Totally worth the writer’s cramp, though.

    Here’s what I’m thankful for in 2010:

I’m thankful for my husband - for his ability to forgive my “less-than-pleasant” moments at the drop of a hat, for his chili/lasagna making skills, and for his willingness to work his ass off to make life better for Hayden and me.

I’m thankful for my son, his killer sense of humour, his ability to conjugate a verb and his exuberance each and every time I walk through the door and back into his life.  I will NEVER tire of hearing “Mommy’s home!”

I’m thankful for track pants.  Other types of pants are annoying in general.

I’m thankful for my parents, whose unfaltering love, guidance and support astounds me on a daily basis.  They’ve shaped my entire being over the past 29 years and I’d be a mere shell of who I am today without them.  Also?  They’re fucking AMAZING at the culinary arts (which has kinda also shaped my being, if we’re getting technical about it.)

I’m thankful for my brother and sister and the dysfunctionally-harmonious childhood the three of us had.  I can count the number of fights I’ve had with both of them on one hand.  We’re fun.  We’re hilarious.  We’re pretty good at Nintendo.  No wonder we’re BFFs.

I’m thankful for the Aerosmith concert that did not get cancelled.  Maybe that’s lame, but I adore them.  Stage-shoving and all.

I’m thankful for Playhouse Disney On-Demand.  Ain’t nothin’ better than Special Agent Oso at 3 a.m. when your child is apparently ready to party.

I’m thankful for Kristy convincing me to “Learn To Run” with her.  Never in my life have I been even remotely athletic.  I’m STILL not.  But I’m DOING this.  And not totally sucking at it!  If I escape type 2 diabetes in the next 20 years, I owe it all to her!

I’m thankful for Kernels ButterSalt popcorn.  My hypertension, however, is NOT.

I’m thankful for my cousin, Tara.  It’s because of her that I can leave and go to work and actually FOCUS on work because I know that Hayden is safe, happy and probably learning enough to gain him early admission to Princeton.

    I’m thankful for Hugh Laurie.

I’m thankful for long-lost friendships, and the hope that we’re on the path to mending a couple of hearts that were pretty broken down for the past couple of years.

I’m thankful for blogging, and most people not hating me for it.

    What are YOU thankful for?
